1. The candidates should have passed the degree under 10 + 2 + 3 (15) or 11 + 1 + 3 (15) Pattern of study.
2. The candidates must have studied Tamil as Part I in the Degree level.
3. Candidates with the following marks in the Bachelor’s Degree are eligible for admission to the Course other than subjects like Economics, Commerce, Home Science, Political Science, Sociology, Psychology Philosophy, Logic and Indian Culture for which PG Qualification is mandatory.

Note: Marks obtained by the candidates in Undergraduate Degree Course Part III Major and allied including practicals (excluding subjects for which P.G. qualification is mandatory) shall be exclusively taken into account to arrive at the percentage of marks mentioned above.
4. Marks obtained in the postgraduate degree (other than subjects for which postgraduate qualifications are mandatory ) shall not be considered for admission.
5. Rounding off of marks to the next higher integer will not be permitted.
6. Postgraduate candidates in Economics, Commerce, Home Science, Political Science, Sociology, Psychology, Philosophy, Logic and Indian Culture should have obtained 50% of marks (irrespective of their undergraduate marks)
7. In the case of physically and visually challenged candidates, a minimum pass in the degree is enough.
8. Candidates who have completed their undergraduate degree in Applied Chemistry, Biochemistry or Applied Physics are able to take Physical Science as their Optional Subject. Those who have completed Environmental Science or Microbiology are able to take Biological Science as their Optional Subjects.
A pass in B.Ed., with not less than 55% of marks in the B.Ed., Programme.

1) Candidates who have qualified for Post-Graduate Degree in Education of this university or any university recognized by the syndicate as equivalent thereto prior to 1st January 1991, subject to such conditions as may be prescribed therefore shall be eligible to register for the Degree of Master of Philosophy (M.Phil) in Education and undergo the prescribed course of study in an approved Institution or Department of the University.
2. Candidates who have qualified for Post-Graduate Degree in Education mentioned in Regulation 1 (a) supra on or after 1st January 1991, shall be required to have obtained a minimum of 55 % of marks in their Post-Graduate Degree in Education to become eligible to register for the Degree of Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) in Education and undergo the prescribed course of study in an approved Institution or Department of the university.
3. Concession of 5% marks for SC/ST.
